Google announcement today that the YouTube Music app on Wear OS offers users the ability to stream music via LTE or WiFi. The new feature will allow users to discover new music without having to download any content first. In a community blog post about the new feature, the company is positioning it as a way “to listen to your favorite playlists wherever you go, even when your phone isn’t nearby.”

The feature was first unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event earlier this year. Users will need a YouTube Music Premium subscription to access the new streaming medium. Google notes that you need an LTE plan from your carrier to use a cellular connection. The company also points out that cellular streaming is not supported on iOS.

To stream YouTube Music without a paired device nearby, you can open YouTube Music on your watch and select the song or playlist you want to listen to. After that, the content will be streamed and played on the available connection.

Google also introduced a new YouTube Music tile for Wear OS that users can add to their watch. The new tile will allow users to quickly access recently played content and navigate to the app’s “Browse” page.

The company notes that YouTube Music Premium subscribers have access to over 80 million songs and thousands of playlists on the YouTube Music app. It says the standalone app allows YouTube Music Premium subscribers to download and stream music for ad-free listening without needing to have their phone nearby. The app also includes a Smart Downloads feature that refreshes the songs you’ve downloaded to your watch whenever it’s connected to Wi-Fi.

Poke Bay did something unprecedented on Tuesday afternoon. The poke shop on the Drag, nestled among the University of Texas buildings, closed for two hours in the middle of the day.

Owners Paul and Priscilla Song needed to restock their restaurant following a lunchtime business crush.

What led to the biggest sales day in company history, which has lasted four and a half years? Was there a $1 poke bowl sale? Was there a story in the news about the health benefits of a raw fish diet?

No, and no. The answer: TikTok.

The Song’s daughter Angelica took to the social media platform on Monday night and posted an emotional plea for people to support her parents’ business in its final weeks.

Benjamin Suh cooks a dish for a customer at Poke Bay on Wednesday. The restaurant serves poke bowls made with fresh seafood.

The building that houses Poke Bay and four other businesses at 2001 Guadalupe St. was purchased by the university in December. Businesses will eventually be moved. Angelica tearfully detailed in her video that her parents, who had been active members of the community and fought during the pandemic to keep their small business alive, were going to be left without compensation or help from the university to relocate.

Content creators in Africa will receive support from YouTube through virtual and in-person trainings and workshops to help them grow their channels and improve their skills. These include a Creator 360 virtual workshop, which will allow African content creators to collaborate and share their skills, and in-person workshops on Creators Day, which will be led by industry experts and will help budding creators learn the skills they need to continue to thrive on YouTube. YouTube will also be offering workshops as part of its Future Insiders program to allow aspiring producers and songwriters to benefit from hands-on training from veteran producers such as Sarz and Musa Keys.

The YouTube Africa Day Concert, in partnership with Idris Elba, will return for the third consecutive year as part of Africa Month programming. The concert will include an in-person event in Nigeria which will be streamed live on YouTube, featuring some of the continent’s hottest artists. The concert will once again commemorate Africa Day by using music as a platform to showcase African culture.

We are extremely proud of YouTube for providing a platform that shares Africa’s creativity with the rest of the world. From music, fashion and beauty to the latest trending movements, YouTube plays an important role in bringing out and expressing Africa’s unique cultural stories to local and global audiences. By commemorating Africa Month through these impactful initiatives, we continue to spotlight and elevate the work of creators and artists who are at the forefront of the continent’s creative explosion.says Alex Okosi, Managing Director, Emerging Markets, YouTube EMEA.

The virtual and in-person trainings build on past initiatives such as the #YouTubeBlackVoices funds and the YouTube Shorts Fund, a $100 million fund designed to reward creators who create creative and unique short films for their contributions. Earlier this year, Angel Lately, Cheymuv, Mandi Sarro and Justus Nandwa were among the 26 selected creators in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa who joined the #YouTubeBlack Voice Creator class of 135 creators in 2022.

Creators receive seed funding as well as dedicated support to help them grow their channels and thrive on the YouTube platform.

Recently, the YouTube NextUp program, which aims to provide access to learning through one-on-one coaching, workshops and resources, was launched to amplify the growth of many successful creators in the region.

YouTube continues to provide a platform for African creators who are dedicated to building audiences around the world, while building a business and generating revenue.

YouTube Music’s home page has been a bland black color since the service launched, and to be honest I thought it was because Google was trying to find ways to implement Material You or maybe a light mode (I contacted support about this). I feel a little awkward saying this, but I miss Google Play Music’s light mode, but it looks like we won’t be going that route.

A new screenshot presented by Redditor Lower-Biscotti reveals that a subtle splash of blurry colors are added to the service, giving it a bit of life. The first image below shows the web app version of Android Police with the recolor, which looks a little less obvious compared to the mobile app redesign that Lower-Biscotti originally showed off.

Ultimately, this change is only meant to add some visual flair and make navigation a little less boring, but it’s a nice addition, in my opinion. Still, I’m holding out hope for the aforementioned lighting mode and Material You updates that I find odd that Google hasn’t considered adding yet. While there’s still a possibility of this happening in time, it would mean a more inconsistent design stripped of color blurring when switching between light and dark respectively, which seems like an unlikely design decision, even for Google.

While YouTube remains its own separate brand from the other Google services, it’s been in the family for 15 years, so I expected the company to treat it more like its other family members, but I can figure out why he wants to keep it separate.

YouTube has been wildly successful and revolutionized the internet, so keeping its brand intact by Google’s visual consistency seems like a good way to separate it from Google’s design inconsistency. It’s not always the case, but there always seems to be an obstacle. If you don’t see the redesign just yet, sit tight as it should be rolling out more widely soon.

YouTube Go, an app offering offline video access, will be shut down in August. Designed for users with intermittent internet access, YouTube Go has received over 500 million downloads in its six-year history.

Launched in 2016 as part of Google’s “next billion users” growth plan, the “Go” app brand targeted low-end devices with limited internet access in markets such as India.

The app allowed users to download YouTube videos for offline viewing. If you didn’t have internet at home, you could go to a place that had an internet connection and download videos to watch later. The app could also create a network between two YouTube Go devices, enabling fast (DRM-protected) file transfers without the internet.

The company’s project phase out youtube go comes after the launch of YouTube Premium in India in 2019, with the company intending to push the use of the core YouTube app aggressively.

“YouTube has invested in improvements to the core YouTube app while providing a better user experience that includes our entire community,” the company said. declared. “Specifically, we’ve improved performance for entry-level devices or those watching YouTube on slower networks. We’re also developing additional user controls that help reduce mobile data usage for viewers with data. limited – so stay tuned for more updates!

Locked behind the YouTube Premium paywall, the ability to download videos for offline viewing is available on the main YouTube app. While YouTube Premium costs $12 per month in the US, in India the program only costs Rs 129 per month, or about $1.69.

The transition to the main YouTube app should be positive for most users, as many basic features are not available on YouTube Go, such as the ability to post, comment, or use the dark theme.

Other “Go” variant apps remain available with no known shutdown plan, including Google Assistant, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, and Gallery. The death of YouTube Go raises the question of whether other “Go” variants will disappear in the future, given Google’s long history of killing both its original apps and those it acquired.

A few years ago, YouTube added live redirects as a way for creators to deliver live streams that ended up pointing viewers to another video on their own channel for premiere events, like BTS engaging fans. before showing a new music video. Now it has adjusted live redirects so that live streamers on the service can redirect their audience to another live stream when they disconnect. A first launch event for the film Top Gun: Maverick Wednesday will be one of the first big events to take advantage of the new addition.

On Twitch, this behavior is called a raid. On the one hand, it’s a good way to help grow viewership and find new content, but it’s also been a vehicle for harassment on the platform, as ‘hate raids’ allegedly target streamers. marginalized with abuse of hundreds of accounts at once.

YouTube Live Redirect Stream Example
Image: YouTube Support

YouTube has clearly taken note of the issues Twitch has struggled to contain and is rolling out live redirects with settings that could make bot-powered harassment something streamers don’t need to worry about so much.

On Twitch, by default, channels are set to allow raids from anyone, and while users can change this setting to only allow raids from “friends, teammates, and followed channels”, many don’t. not. However, from the outset, YouTube Live redirects can only point to channels that subscribe to the streamer or have explicitly added that channel to an allowed list. Additionally, only channels with more than 1,000 subscribers and no active community guidelines warnings can send a live redirect.

Now that the feature is live, we’ll be able to see how streamers are using it, but building default settings that give streamers one less thing to worry about should be a good start. YouTube previewed live redirects in a march video along with several other new features to come as it tries to convince creators that this is the platform they should be using instead of competitors like Twitch, Facebook or TikTok.

The singer of the Ukrainian band Antytila described the difficulties encountered while writing the lyrics for a collaboration with Ed Sheeran.

Sheeran, 31, collaborated with Antytila to create a remix of his track 2stepwhich will raise funds for Ukraine.

Speaking to BBC News, Antytila lead singer Taras Topolia said: “It wasn’t so easy to record the vocals because our studio was busy while we were creating the lyrics for the song.

“So our studio was under occupation but we found a way to record the vocals.”

A new video, which Topolia, 34, called “heartbreaking” but encouraged people to watch, was released to accompany the remix. “The video is also very heartbreaking,” he told BBC News.

“You should watch it, I ask you, please watch the video because the video conveys the message of the song.”

The remix was released to raise funds for Music Saves UA, a non-profit fundraising project providing humanitarian aid to people in Ukraine.

Over the next 12 months, Sheeran and Antytila’s world record royalties from the official video’s YouTube streams, and Warner Music’s proceeds from those streams, will be donated to Music Saves UA.

Topolia, who is currently working as a medic in the war effort, explained the significance of the remix saying, “It’s a simple but very dramatic story. It’s not just my story, it’s the story of million Ukrainians, whose peaceful life has been interrupted by war.

“So what I tried to do was buy some creative tools from them, to portray this drama, this drama of war in our country.”

Ed Sheeran’s official video for the original recording of 2ndp starring rapper Lil Baby, which was unveiled last month, was filmed in Kyiv last year.

In a statement, Sheeran said: “I filmed the video for 2step in the city of Kyiv, Ukraine, before the devastating acts of violence began to unfold.

“It was my first time visiting the country and I felt very welcome during my time there – everyone from the production team to the many people I met during my days off.

“Ukraine is a proud and resilient country and I am grateful to have had the chance to shoot my video there.

Ed Sheeran performing at Croke Park

“I support Ukraine and will donate my record royalties from the video’s YouTube streams to DEC’s Humanitarian Appeal for Ukraine.”

Topolia thanked Sheeran for the opportunity to collaborate, citing the important message he sends to the rest of the world.

He said: “Thank you Ed Sheeran and Ed’s team for letting me do this. It’s very important to us to send messages like this through song to everyone in the UK and people around the world.”

Topolia also expressed his hope for a positive outcome for his country, saying: “Every day we keep hoping that one day we will achieve victory and we will meet in a new stadium in Ukraine and also invite a lot of people from all over the world to undefeated happiness.”

He added: “The main thing is that Ukraine is united, that Ukraine believes in victory and that it achieves small victories every day, on the way to the big victory.”

As promised, Ben&Ben released a new song at midnight on May 1st and on YouTube his mv is already trending at #6 for music. Incredible!

“Paninindigan Kita” is an upbeat bop written by twins Miguel and Paolo Benjamin about, well, fighting for someone you love.

In a statement, the award-winning nine-piece sensation said, “It’s also an ode to a lover who might be hesitant to take a step forward in the relationship.”

Their producers and long-time friends Jean-Paul Verona and Sam Marquez helped Ben&Ben produce this legendary show while maintaining a pop-leaning sound. This marks a new era for Ben&Ben.

The release of the new single is accompanied by a cute animated lyric video which showed a couple taking a ride on the MRT. And with the exception of the spacious, empty train carriage, the video exudes the supreme reality of Metro Manila – the warm afternoon sun, cityscapes and all.

Illustrated by Isobel Funk, with animation by Emil Reoma and creative direction by Karen Dela Fuente, “Paninindigan Kita” is already at #6 on YouTube trending videos for music with over 200K views at the time of writing.
