Amazon Prime Day 2022: official dates confirmed and offers to be expected

Calling all deal hunters – we have good news for you: Amazon Prime Day 2022 is right around the corner with the sale confirmed to return from Tuesday July 12 through Wednesday July 13.

The event started in 2015 to mark Amazon’s 20th anniversary and has since become one of the biggest and best sales events of the year. The shopping extravaganza lasts a full 48 hours and gives you the chance to save money on everything from air fryers, robot vacuums, mattresses and beauty to fitness purchases, Apple products, gaming consoles. games and laptops.

Amazon Prime Day traditionally takes place in July, but over the past two years the retailer has gone off the rails. In 2020 it was in October, due to the pandemic, while in 2021 it was held in June due to transportation issues and the impact of the Olympics.

As for this year? Amazon has confirmed that the sale will take place in its usual July slot, with the 48-hour event starting at midnight on July 12 and running until 11:59 p.m. on July 13. The first deals will begin on June 21, including up to 50% off top brands.

Last year’s event was its biggest yet, so it’s all to play for in 2022. To help you prepare well in advance, we’ve answered all your burning questions, from what’s Amazon Prime Day and how it compares to Black Friday, top tips for snagging a bargain, and the best deals from the past year.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2022 in the UK?

The online giant has confirmed that its huge two-day sale will return to its normal mid-summer slot in July this year. For 2022, it will take place on July 12 and 13.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is an annual two-day sale event that allows the retailer to slash the price of thousands of products from top brands including Apple, Samsung, KitchenAid, Shark and more.

The first of its kind took place in 2015 and lasted only 24 hours. But it wasn’t until 2019 that the event was extended to two full days.

Remember that to access the huge discounts you must have a Amazon Prime Membership.

Likewise, it is also worth downloading the Amazon app. During Prime Day, you’ll find what the retailer calls “lightning deals,” which are huge discounts that are active for a few hours at a time. You can also set up alerts to be notified when a discount goes live.

Last year’s best deals

On last year’s Amazon Prime Day, there were a number of really must-have deals.

(Amazon)

Apple products have seen a huge reduction – for example, Apple’s AirPods pro (£189, Amazon.co.uk) have been reduced by 25%, while the Apple Watch SE (£249, Amazon.co.uk) was reduced to just £286.99 – a very impressive offer at the time.

Similarly, in the tech area, there were huge discounts on Amazon’s own-brand products – the Fire HD 10 tablet (£149.99, Amazon.co.uk) has been reduced by 47% to just £79.99. The Kindle paperwhite (£120.53, Amazon.co.uk) meanwhile, saw an equally impressive discount, making it just £89.99, down from the usual £129.

(Amazon)

If you’re looking for appliances, you might be interested to know that there were massive savings to be had in this department as well. Shark’s Anti-Hair Vacuum Cleaner proved hugely popular, with the price dropping from £379.99 to just £183.99.

Another sale buy that many were seriously interested in was Ninja’s air fryer (£249, Amazon.co.uk) which offered an impressive 40% off, which meant a saving of £100.

There were also plenty of top-notch gaming offerings. PlayStation fans were given three months Plus 3 and PlayStation Now subscription for just £29.99 instead of £42.98.

(Amazon)

There was even £15 off an Xbox Series S bundle (£259.95, Amazon.co.uk), which at the time was quite significant due to the stock issues the console was struggling with.

If you missed last year or are just wondering how this year’s event will go, we’re expecting similar price drops for 2022, so you’re in for a treat.

Amazon Prime Day vs Black Friday: Should we wait?

When it comes to sales events, Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day are the biggest and best. But of course, there are differences between the two that can influence when you choose to shop.

One of the main differences is that during Black Friday you’ll see thousands of retailers taking part and offering big discounts across the board, so in theory you have more choice.

This is in stark contrast to Prime Day, where selling is limited (but not so much given the number of products the retailer stocks) to just items on Amazon’s website. That being said, the great thing about Prime Day is that the deals are all in one place, which makes browsing much easier than the beast that is Black Friday. And the discounts are exclusively for Prime members, so you’re more likely to land a good deal because there’s less competition.

On Prime Day, the main deals you’ll see are for Amazon’s own-brand and tech devices, with discounts of up to 50% in previous years, so it’s the perfect time to grab some huge savings.

To answer the question of whether you should wait, bearing in mind Amazon’s track record, you’ll get very similar, if not the same deals, so we suggest shopping your way around on Prime Day.

How to sign up for Amazon Prime

As we noted, Prime Day deals are exclusively for Amazon Prime subscribers. It costs £7.99 per month or £79 for a year. Nothing could be easier to register, just go to the Amazon Prime landing page and enter your details.

If you don’t want to pay the monthly fee, you can get a 30 day free trial, which will also give you access to the sale, but we recommend doing this closer to the time. Although you won’t be charged, you’ll need to enter your card details when signing up, as Amazon automatically converts you to a paid subscription after 30 days.

Is Amazon Prime worth it?

The value of a subscription service of course depends on your personal preferences. But, you get many benefits as an Amazon Prime member.

Not only will you get Prime Day deals, but you’ll also get free next day or same day shipping on items, plus access to thousands of free eBooks and access to First video and Amazon Music services.

All this for just £7.99 a month is pretty good, so we’d recommend register.
